It will only be good as an external converter and you will still need a windows interface.
ULTIMATE LIVE MUSIC AUDIO CONVERTER 64 BIT MAC
If you change from a MAC you will have a 2000.00 piece of nice metal sitting in a rack or closet. The only problem here is that it's not windows compatible so be honest with yourself. It would seem pretty much seamless to you and Logic. Purchase new DACs later and then clock the ensemble into them and your interface wouldn't change. You could also get the ensemble and if you ever wanted to get better DACs simply do that. But that can be remedied with a good controller assuming you have one. One additional note, if you love the "integration" you're getting in Logic with the Ensemble, you won't quite get that from these interfaces.

All I know is RME is proven solid and driver stability is a must in this field and they are good for that. I have no idea about the other interface recommended TC Konnekt 48. I have never had any clocking issues between my RME and the Lavry. I choose the second option because I get a great soundcard interface and was able to pick the converter of my choice. Or you could do something like a digiface/multiface and then add any convertor you want later. If he was claiming the ensemble was a bit pricey, this option could turn out to be second mortgage material to him.Īll in all for the money the FF800 is an amazing device. This option could get insanely expensive. He will still need an interface or he can get the MADI card for it which still requires an additional MADI converter. That ADI-8 QS is a beast and certainly great I am sure but it puts him in a totally different world price wise. I use a Mytek 8x192 connected to RME HDSPe RayDat PCIe now, but I had RME converters before, and I tested Apogee, Lavry, DAD (AX24) and Benchmark in my studio. I like both but I'd rather get the RME QS since I do mastering too, and the Apogee is slightly more colored to my ears and adds a bit of DC offset. The Apogee Rosetta isn't "better" than the RME ADI-8 QS, which is what I would compare it to. I know this doesn't answer your question about the FW800 but I can almost bet you anything that the DA/AD in that thing is not superior to the ADI-2 which is a dedicated 2 channel high quality DA and it still lost to the Apogee. His output is not as good as mine, but his AD is better then my Multiface 2. My buddy now owns a Rosetta 200 with Firewire for Windows. So I ended up with a Multiface 2 and a Lavry DA10. But I ended up buying this as my sound card interface. RME Multiface 2 was last and it was quite a bit worse then the ADI-2 for harshness. I tested with different amps, different speakers, different music, different rooms etc.Ĥ. This was the order they came in without any possible chance for argument (from any of us that were there testing it for two weeks). Myself and my ex as well as all my friends tested these in and out for hours a day with all kinds of music. I had two weeks of demoing an RME Multiface 2, an RME ADI-2, an Apogee Rosetta 200 with firewire card and a Lavry DA10. I have had 4 DAC's side by side when I was deciding what to get.
